Seattle:
The Space Needle Since the Century 21 Exposition (1962), the Space Needle has been Seattle's most recognizable landmark, and has been featured on the television show Frasier and the background of the television series Grey's Anatomy. Surrounding the Needle is Seattle Center, a public fairground that serves as the site of many local civic and cultural events, such as Bumbershoot, Folklife, and the Bite of Seattle. Seattle Center plays a combination of roles within the city, ranging from public fairgrounds to a civic center. The Seattle Center Monorail was also constructed for Century 21 and still runs from Seattle Center to Westlake Center, a Downtown shopping mall a little over a mile to the southeast.
The Smith Tower The Smith Tower was the tallest building on the West Coast from its completion in 1914 until the Space Needle overtook it in 1962. The late 1980s saw the construction of Seattle's two tallest skyscrapers: the 76-story Columbia Center (completed in 1985) is the tallest building in the Pacific Northwest and the fourth tallest building west of the Mississippi River; the Washington Mutual Tower (completed in 1988) is Seattle's second-tallest building. Other notable Seattle landmarks include Pike Place Market, the Fremont Troll, the Experience Music Project (at Seattle Center) and the Seattle Central Library.
Alaskan Cruise:
Glaciers Alaska has more active glaciers than the rest of the inhabited world combined. Some 100,000 glaciers cover about 29,000 square miles. We highlight just a few of our favorites.
Denali National Park Alaska's most famous park and home to Mt. McKinley, the park covers more than 6 million acres. The low growing vegetation makes Denali one of North America's best places to view wildlife.
Wildlife Catch a glimpse of whales among the ice floes, observe moose, sheep and other creatures grazing among wildflowers, and spot small critters scurry about in the fields and evergreen trees.
Inside Passage The Inside Passage is the longest protected inland waterway in the world. In the spring, it's blanketed with wildflowers and the whales migrate. Come fall, the landscape is ablaze with fall foliage and bald eagles gather.
